Description
The Microbial Organic Acid Test (MOAT) reports 21 metabolites (including creatinine) which include products of beneficial bacteria, harmful bacteria, Clostridia species, Candida and other yeast species, mould and fungal metabolites giving an understanding of dysbiosis.
Methodology
Organic acids are measured by a combination of gas or liquid chromatography linked with mass spectrometry
When should I use
The MOAT is an ideal follow-up to the OAT after gut dysbiosis treatment to assess efficacy or when specifically wanting to investigate gut dysbiosis. Generally we would recommend the full OAT (code CMI30) as an initial screening test.
Other Details
Patients must avoid apples, grapes, raisins, pears, cranberries and their juices for 48 hours prior to specimen collection. They must avoid arabinogalactan, echinacea, reishi mushrooms and ribose supplements for 12 hours before collection.
