Lactose intolerance is when the small intestine doesn’t produce enough enzyme (lactase) to break down the sugar (lactose) in milk and dairy products.
BreathTracker’s Lactose Intolerance test uses a lactose drink to measure intolerance/reactivity to Lactose. After drinking the lactose drink, the test measures the amount of hydrogen and methane in your breath at regular intervals. High levels of these gases indicate lactose isn’t being fully digested or absorbed.
The test can be carried out at home and requires a period of adaptive diet 24 hours before the test and then a fasting 8-12 hours before commencing the test.
